Handy Andy’s Involvement with the Rotary Club of Frederick

You know Andy Lofstrand as the Frederick County remodeling contractor with an unparalleled attention to detail and a passion for quality craftsmanship. What you may not know is that Andy also has a passion for community service. As a member of the Rotary Club of Frederick, one of the largest and most active service clubs in the area, Andy gives back in several ways.

Established in 1920, the Rotary Club of Frederick has funded dozens of projects that have helped make our community a better place to live and work.

On March 14, the Rotary Club held its signature fundraising event: the Leprechaun Luau at the Frederick Community College Field House. During the event, Andy manned the soda, water, and wine bar.

“It’s a great way to have fun and raise funds,” said Andy. “It sure beats a stuffy black tie affair.”

One of the projects that the luau helps fund is “Rotary Smiles.” Teaming with Deonated Dental Services, The Rotary Club addresses urgent dental needs within Frederick County, aiming to find long-term dental solutions for county residents who, because of disability or lack of adequate income cannot obtain it themselves. To date, the Rotary Club has donated $20,000 to the Maryland Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped (MFDH).

This coming week, members of the Rotary Club, which include some of Frederick’s most prominent business and civic leaders, will be doing “mock Interviews” at Frederick High School to help students prepare for the “real world” and get ready to go on job interviews.

“This house needs a lot of work,” explained Andy. “Water pours through the basement at a rate of 3 to 5 gals per min. During heavy rains, it has ruined the furnace. Windows are rusting out.”
